I was born and raised in Lebanon, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. I grew up playing the drums (drum set and marching/rudimental percussion, mostly) throughout middle school, high school, and college, and still enjoy playing when I have the time.
Prior to coming to Notre Dame, I received an M.A. from The University of Memphis, where I wrote a thesis on shame-pride emotion schemas in white supremacist music. Memphis is, without a doubt, my second home.
I live in South Bend, Indiana, with my wife—a 5th grade teacher in a neighboring public school district.
